What kinds of IITM BS mock test can you take?
Eight, and the difference between them is entirely what the questions are drawn from. Three are cut from real released papers: a full Qualifier mock across its four subjects, a previous year paper mock that reproduces one released slot exactly as it was set, and a subject-wise paper mock that takes one subject's slice of one paper. The builder
Composing your own test, 10 to 30 questions
The fixed shapes cover most of what a term throws at you, but not all of it. Sometimes the test you want is "twenty questions from Statistics 2, weighted towards the parts I keep getting wrong, in half an hour" — and no paper was ever set that way. The custom builder is for that: pick any scope in the syllabus, from a whole subject down to a single subtopic, then pick a length between 10 and 30 questions.
What happens next is the part worth understanding. The composer does not pick at random. It walks the syllabus underneath your scope breadth-first, handing out one slot at a time, so a twenty-question test across a subject spreads across its weeks and topics rather than landing four questions deep in whichever one happens to be largest. Within each slot it takes the difficulty rung furthest behind a target mix, so the paper is not accidentally all easy or all hard.
Coverage and difficulty pull against each other, and coverage wins — a scope with more subtopics than you asked for questions cannot include them all, and the builder tells you what it actually achieved rather than what you asked for. The clock is paced from the question count, so a twenty-question test gets twenty questions' worth of time and not a fixed block.
