IITM BS mock test analysis

Every IITM BS mock returns 68 parameters, not a score.

A total out of a total tells you how it went. It cannot tell you what to fix. Every submitted attempt here is broken into 68 measured parameters across 7 groups, and every one of them is listed on this page.

What does IITM BS mock test analysis actually tell you?

On Prasnya, a submitted attempt is broken into 68 parameters across 7 groups, and the point of all of them is to convert a score into an instruction. The overview gives the familiar figures — marks, percentage, accuracy, marks lost to negatives, time taken. Subject performance repeats that per subject, which is what turns a total into a decision about tomorrow. Time analysis asks the more useful question of where the time went: how much of it bought correct answers, how much was spent on questions you eventually left blank, and how each question compares to the time it deserved. Difficulty analysis splits every band, because losing marks on easy questions and losing them on hard ones are different problems. Attempt quality classifies each question as perfect, wasted, overtime or confused. The question journey records visit order, revisits and the questions that cost most for least. Finally every question is listed with what you chose, what it was worth and where it sits in the syllabus, and Pro adds the full worked solution beside each. The same report is returned for all 8 shapes of mock, from a full paper down to a single subtopic. Prasnya is independent and not affiliated with IIT Madras.

The report

All 68 parameters, listed

Claiming a number and then not showing it is how these pages usually go. Here is every parameter, grouped as the report groups them — count them.

Overview

15 parameters

The headline read on the attempt: what you scored, what was available, and how much of what you attempted you got right.

  • Score in marks
  • Total marks available
  • Percentage
  • Accuracy percentage
  • Correct answers
  • Incorrect answers
  • Unanswered questions
  • Marked for review
  • Never visited

Subject performance

13 parameters

The same read again, once per subject, which is what turns a total into a decision about what to revise tomorrow.

  • Score per subject
  • Marks available per subject
  • Percentage per subject
  • Accuracy per subject
  • Correct per subject
  • Incorrect per subject
  • Unanswered per subject
  • Marked for review per subject

Time

8 parameters

Not how long you took, but where the time went — and whether the time you spent bought you anything.

  • Time spent on correct answers
  • Time spent on incorrect answers
  • Time spent on questions you left blank
  • Time against the time each question deserved
  • Half-hour interval breakdown
  • Correct answers per interval
  • Incorrect answers per interval
  • Focus chunks across the attempt

Difficulty

5 parameters

Every band, overall and per subject. Losing marks on easy questions and losing them on hard ones are different problems with different repairs.

  • Easy questions attempted, correct and incorrect
  • Moderate questions attempted, correct and incorrect
  • Tough questions attempted, correct and incorrect
  • Unattempted count per band
  • Difficulty spread per subject

Attempt quality

5 parameters

The judgement layer: each question classified by what the attempt on it was actually like, overall and per subject.

  • Perfect attempts — right, inside the time it deserved
  • Wasted attempts — wrong, and answered too fast to have tried
  • Overtime attempts — answered, but well over the time budget
  • Confused attempts — time spent, nothing submitted
  • Quality spread per subject

Question journey

8 parameters

How you moved through the paper. Order, revisits and the questions that cost the most for the least.

  • Visit order across the paper
  • First visit timestamp per question
  • Last visit timestamp per question
  • Times each question was opened
  • Answer submitted timestamp
  • Navigation events
  • Subject switches
  • The questions that hurt most

Question by question

14 parameters

Every question in the attempt, with what you chose, what it was worth and where it sits in the syllabus. Pro adds the full worked solution beside each one.

The argument

Why four of these matter more than the score

Most analysis screens are the overview and nothing else. These four are the ones that change what you do next.

  • 01

    Time against time deserved

Every question carries an expected time. Comparing your time to it is what separates "I do not know this" from "I know this but too slowly" — two problems with completely different fixes.

  • 02

    Wasted attempts

Questions you got wrong having spent almost no time on them. A high count means you are guessing under pressure rather than reading, which no amount of extra revision repairs.

  • 03

    Confused attempts

Questions you spent real time on and then left blank. These are the most expensive things in any paper — the full time cost with none of the marks — and they are invisible on a scorecard.

  • 04

    Accuracy versus attempts

Attempting sixty questions at 50% accuracy and forty at 80% can produce the same score under negative marking. They are opposite problems, and only the split tells you which one you have.

  • 05

    Marks lost per subject

Not the score per subject, but the marks the negatives took away. It is usually concentrated in one subject, and it is usually not the one you expect.

  • 06

    Difficulty bands

Correct, incorrect and unattempted counts in every band. Dropping easy marks is a discipline problem; dropping hard ones is a syllabus problem.

The loop

From a report to a repair

The analysis is only worth generating if the next step is smaller than the last one.

  1. 1

    Submit the attempt

Any of the eight shapes of mock, scored under the paper's own marking scheme.

  2. 2

    Read the groups

7 of them, from the overview down to the individual questions.

  3. 3

    Find the named weakness

The weakest subjects and topics surface by name rather than as a number you have to interpret.

  4. 4

    Take the narrow test

That topic or subtopic is its own route and its own short timed test. Repair, then re-measure.

The coverage

The same report for every shape of test

Analysis is not reserved for full-length papers. A fifteen-minute subtopic test returns exactly the same groups as a four-subject rehearsal, which is what makes short tests worth taking.

The questions

Questions students ask

How many parameters does the IITM BS mock test analysis track?
68, across 7 groups: overview, subject performance, time, difficulty, attempt quality, question journey, question by question. Every one of them is listed on this page.
Do I get analysis on every mock test, or only full papers?
Every shape. All 8 kinds of mock — from a full four-subject Qualifier rehearsal down to a single-subtopic test — return the same report, scoped to what you sat.
What is the difference between basic and advanced analysis?
Plus includes the core report: score, accuracy, per-subject performance and the status breakdown. Pro adds the deeper groups — time against expected time, difficulty bands, attempt quality, the question journey — and a question-by-question solution review of the exact attempt you sat.
What do perfect, wasted, overtime and confused attempts mean?
They classify how each question actually went. Perfect is correct within the time it deserved. Wasted is wrong after almost no time, which usually means guessing. Overtime is answered but well over budget. Confused is time spent with nothing submitted — the most expensive outcome in any paper.
Is analysis available for normal PYQ practice as well as mocks?
Yes. Practice attempts are tracked too, so accuracy and activity across subjects, topics and time are visible on the analysis dashboard, separately from mock attempts.
Is Prasnya an official IIT Madras website?
No. Prasnya is an independent practice platform and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to IIT Madras or any examination body. It takes officially released previous year questions and makes them practisable in a structured way.
What does it cost, and is there a free trial?
Every new account gets 1 day of full Pro-level access with no card required. After that, plans are one payment for one month of access — nothing recurring and no card stored. Go covers subject and week wise practice; Plus adds paper, subject, section and week mocks with basic analysis; Pro adds topic and subtopic mocks, unlimited starts, advanced analysis and question-by-question solution review.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Practice, timed mocks and analysis are all built mobile-first, and the mathematics is typeset with KaTeX rather than served as screenshots, so it stays legible and selectable on a small screen.
